The practice’s work has been recognised through nominations and awards, including most recently being short listed for Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award 2022, a nomination for 2022 Royal Academy Dorfman Award, the Civic Trust Award 2021, the 2021 Architects Journal Small Projects Award and the Young Architect of the Year twice in recent years.

Rashid Ali studied architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture (University College London) and City Design at the London School of Economics. Prior to forming Rashid Ali Architects, he worked with Adjaye Associates in London. He has lectured extensively about his research interests and the work of the practice. Ali values the merit in combining practice with academia, as such crosspollination stimulates innovation. He has held senior academic positions at the University of Liverpool, University of Nottingham and the Welsh School of Architecture. Most recently, he was founding Programme Leader in Interior Architecture at the University of East London.

UK BLACK HISTORY

Rashid Ali Architects is included in Dezeen magazine’s list of architects, spotlighting contributions of black architects, designers, projects and studios to celebrate UK Black History Month. Images of the widely published Courtyard Pavilion are featured in the social media campaign.

GARDEN TEA ROOM

The Garden Tea Room in Hargeisa in featured in an article on Dezeen Magazine by Tom Ravenscroft. With photographs by our regular collaborator, Lyndon Douglas, the article outlines the role, and the function of the structure plays in mediating the public and private aspects of its site.

We have the honour of being invited to exhibit at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale by Curator Leslie Lokko. We are featured in section titled Guests from the Future; consisting of young practitioners whose work provides a glimpse of future practices.

RASHID ALI ARCHITECTS WINS 2021 AJ SMALL PROJECTS AWARD

Our Common Room for the Town Hall in Hargeisa, has been named winner of the AJ Small Projects 2021 award. We also won the People’s Choice award, with nearly 30 per cent out of over 2,000 votes received through reader’s poll.
